THE ROSE AND THE NIGHTINGALE
The nightingale’s love for the rose — its devotion of blood and life — is a universal motif found across the world. Legends based on this shared motif are told in various forms and hold a particularly significant place in Turkish culture. According to the legend, when the rose was first created, it was a pale-colored flower. The nightingale, who fell in love with it, perched on its branches night after night, pleading without regard for the thorns, just to witness its bloom. The rose remained indifferent to these pleas. When the nightingale finally grew weak and lost consciousness, the rose pierced its chest with its thorns, drawing blood. The nightingale’s blood seeped into the thorns and gave color to the bud. Thus, the red color of the rose comes from the blood the nightingale shed for love. Our collection is inspired by the impossible love of the Rose and the Nightingale.
